On Saturday, May 9th, the 2009 Atlantic Karate Championship will be held in Charlottetown. This one-day event will attract karate enthusiasts from New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, and of course PEI. It is open to all skill and belt levels including our Juniors and Little Dragons.
While our children’s fantastic instructors may seem to have super-hero abilities, they can’t do it all on their own! Extra hands will be required for events such as this, so as parent representative on the 2009 Atlantic Karate Tournament Organizing Committee, I would like to ask you to consider lending some time to support an event which provides so many benefits to our children.
The range of jobs is varied and interesting. Where special skills are required, we will provide training and practice time well before the event in order to increase your comfort level. The jobs include (but are not limited to):
- Helping to take up and lay down the flooring at the event location
- Helping Juniors put on protective vests and helmets
- Keeping students in their assigned groups prior to their competition
- Operating the scoreboard and tracking matches
- Helping with the registration desk or canteen
- General clean up and helping return the flooring to the Dojo
You can offer a couple of hours or stay for the entire event - the amount is up to you!
If you are interested, you can sign up on the sheet at the Dojo bulletin board, speak to one of the instructors at the Dojo, or contact me at kmayhew@gov.pe.ca or call me (902)-628-8186
Thanks!
